August 29, 2009 - Horseshoe and Grand Canyon

This morning we went back for a ride near the Colorado river rock which gives it a shape of a horseshoe. This site is not listed but thanks to a blog of traveler we heard, so thank you to these strangers. OK, so our photos are not great because we do not have a wide angle but here's a link where you will find beautiful pictures (the blog that guided us to this road trip):

Then we joined the Grand Canyon where we spent the rest of the day. Whether to describe the Grand Canyon in one word it would be: MAJESTIC. Indeed, its size is impressive Grand Canyon. It is a place strewn with magnificent views all the more beautiful ones than the others and walks. By late afternoon we went to watch the sunset over the Grand Canyon.
So after 3 great days we'll hit the road for Los Angeles and enjoy the City of Angels during the next few days!

Thursday, August 27 - Las Vegas

Las Vegas, paradise for gamblers, high rollers, casinos, luxury hotels, which vie imagination to attract wealthy clients. Disneyland Adult somehow. We loved. We arrived Thursday midday. Outdoor temperature: 105 degrees Fahrenheit or 40 degrees Celsius even when (as you say they liked the air conditioning). Our hotel, the Flamingo was the first luxury hotel built in Las Vegas. After a tour of the nearby casinos (Bellagio and Caesars Palace to name only the most famous) we get our room and we'll book a show for the evening. Can We walk casino casinos. We find the Eiffel Tower and the Little Paris, the casino New York New York Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. We have the spectacle of the Bellagio fountains (beautiful) under a blazing sun. By late afternoon we see a magic show (unfortunately the magician did not want to disappear ... Julien !!!). When we come out of the show, night has fallen and it is a new Las Vegas in front of us lit up everywhere! Breathtaking. After a trip to the chapel of the Excalibur casino (no, not worry we did not married, the chapel being closed lol), we decide to try our luck at a casino: the Caesars Palace. As you can guess we did not win the jackpot (if the blog title would have been different)! We therefore lost our 12 dollars invested in miserable blackjack and slots! We also have the opportunity to go back, this time of night, the spectacle of the Bellagio fountains, which have dazzled! This day in Las Vegas was magical and we could have stayed one more day!

21 to 26 August 2009 - Hawaii

Aloha!
We finally arrived in the United States, the last country on our journey and not the least!
Our 5 days Hawaii on the island of Oahu went well under the sun and heat. Our hotel was in Waikiki, where lies the most famous beach in Hawaii. Waikiki is a very clean city, the beach is lovely, there are plenty of luxury hotels (including a huge complex Hilton) and this is very jet set! We enjoyed the beach, the hotel pool and walk around town!
We also jumped at the chance to visit Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attack Dec. 7, 1941 caused the U.S. entry in the 2nd World War. After a museum and a film summary on the history of Pearl Harbour we took a ferry to the Arizona Memorial (which is the water above the sunken wreck of the ship of the same name in which more than 1,700 people perished in that fateful day). Then we visited the boat named Missouri, heavily damaged during the attack but remained in service until 1992. This historic day was very interesting.
Otherwise we have not hung with specially Hawaii (but we just stayed in Waikiki which may explain our disappointment). Despite all our five days were very enjoyable!
We fly tomorrow for a good lap in the American West: to We Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon! Back

15 to 21 August 2009 - Fiji

Bula! (Hello in Fijian)
Last Saturday we found the heat arriving in Fiji. After a night in Nadi (the main island) we went for a tour of the islands in five days Yasawa. These 5 days were magical and we have discovered heavenly places and very friendly Fijians. After a little over an hour boat ride we went on a boat that took us to our first island Kuata. Our little bungalow was quite modest (with a view over the sea anyway) but the beach, water, the view from the top of the island, the unfailing hospitality, enchanting! We spent 2 days on this island full of swimming, sunbathing, walking, fishing boat typical for the sunset and the evening dances typical Fijian. Then we took the boat to make us a second City: Navity where we joined the hotel Korovou for 2 days. The hotel was very good. Our bungalow was also a superb sea view and especially the sunset ... And the morning we were awakened by the gentle sound of waves ... ... Paradise! During this trip we visited a typical Fijian village located on another island 30 minutes by boat. When we arrived in the village we participated in the welcoming ceremony that involves drinking a liquid rather special (it looks like muddy water ...) not terrible. But we played the game! Then we went to the local market (just 4 stalls shell necklaces spread on the ground). We then went to visit the school that was celebrating that day to celebrate the holiday starts. So there were games organized. The children were all cuter than each other and care for adults more than warm. We have the opportunity to share a typical meal (we can not tell you too what was eaten by cons ... apart from Magnoc - like on Koh Lanta ... But it's not terrible). This morning as really exciting and we really liked. The rest of our stay was Navity punctuated by swimming, snorkeling, walking along the beach, sunset on the beach, wake waves, tasting coconut (open with Julien on the beach), evening dances typical (for the occasion we have learned The Bula Dance) followed by a bonfire on the beach. Unfortunately all good things come to an end soon and we left Fiji. Here are our vacation a wonderful memory. It's really a beautiful country and we were very pleasantly surprised by the friendliness and the integration of population. We lived in the Fijian for 5 days unforgettable.
